I’s

I can not forget it,
No matter how hard
My mind resists.
It will always be there,
That spiteful kiss
And that even nastier smile.
I can not hide it,
Not from my conscience,
Not from my eyes,
With that wondering body
And all its empty lies.
And if I do try,
It flows back through drink,
Creating a blindfold in which
I begin to think.
I can not forget,
Not now,
Not ever.
Not as spring comes
And creatures fly together…

I must not forget.
